PGE Marquam Substation

Portland General Electric

The Marquam substation was built to provide reliable power service to Portland Oregon’s downtown and South Waterfront Area. This project will replace a 60 year old substation equipment located on the east side of the Willamette River, which currently serves the downtown area via Eight Undersea Cables, half of which dated to the 1950.

The Marquam substation will assure reliable electric service for his critical area by offloading the downtown energy grid from the old east side substation. At the time it was part of the largest underground utility projects in the State of Oregon.
